When Addison was 4 weeks old he was diagnosed with Pyloric Stenosis, a condition seen mostly in first-born males where the muscle around the opening from the stomach to the small intestine starts to grow too large and too strong too quickly. So the opening becomes constricted by the muscle, and eventually closes off, which prevents any food from leaving the stomach (so the only place for it to go is back up).
We first noticed something unusual one night when Addison was eating and immediatly threw up everything he just ate (all over Mom, we might add). He couldn't keep down any food, and was eventually throwing up everything he ate with forceful and projectile vomiting, sometimes up to 2 feet. It was not fun to watch him in so much pain, and we were soon sent to the Pediatric Emergency in Edmonton. We spent 5 days in the hospital while Addison had surgery - a "quick fix" they told us. It was so incredibly hard for us to see our son hooked up to an IV and different monitors, to see them poking him for blood, and then to hand him over to the surgeons when it was time for the surgery. And yet at the same time, it was a relief for us to know that our son would soon be able to eat again, and begin to grow strong and healthy.
Addison recovered very well from the surgery and is doing so well now. As you can see, he is growing big and strong, and doesn't seem to be affected by that minor set-back. He will, however, have a scar on his tummy for the rest of his life (you can see it in the picture), but we see it as a daily reminder of God's goodness in watching over our little son. God totally answered many, many prayers, and we have seen His goodness over and over again. We are thankful for caring and knowledgeable doctors and nurses who took care of Addison in the hospital, and we are thankful that God answered our prayers in completely healing our son. We learned a lot about trusting God during that time, and maybe it was God's way of getting our attention and saying "Hey, I'm in control, and you just have to trust me that I know what I'm doing!" Addison is now as good as new, and we give God the glory!!!
